How are students involved in CASA.ACEA?

Both the executive and membership body of CASA-ACEA are made up of students who are studying at any of the CACB accredited design programs across Canada.

Who are CASA.ACEA Representatives?

Each of the CACB accredited schools must elect a current student to act as their representative during national meetings and proceedings. This student must be actively enrolled in a CACB accredited program during their term or representation and be in good academic standing.

Say hello to our Past President Chris Johnson!

Chris is a fellow alumni from Laurentian University and an Intern Architect at Svedas Architects Inc. who joined CASA-ACÉA in 2019.

Over the past 6 years, Chris has served in multiple roles on the board of directors, with a focus on developing and sharing student resources. His efforts in this area have been instrumental in curating discussions and engaging the profession on why national events provide value to students and recent graduates.

DO YOU HAVE AN INSPIRING THESIS PROPOSAL?
If so, ask your faculty if you can submit it for the 2025 CAGBC Scholarship for Sustainable Design and Research. Only one thesis proposal per school will be accepted, but this year two scholarships of $5000 will be awarded, doubling your chances of winning.

Last year’s winner was Frangiscos (Frank) Hinoporos from Carleton University, for his project Disrupting the Global Supply chain in Architecture: A hyper-local Approach to the Built Environment. To reduce the excessive carbon impact of global supply chains, Frank set out a long term strategy to incrementally address this situation, by identifying and establishing new scalable and sustainable sources of local materials.

ENTER THE BING THOM AWARD
New from the RAIC Foundation, this award is open to all students enrolled in a registered Canadian school of Architecture. There are two awards available, each worth $3500. submission deadline is 7 March 2025. To honour the vision and memory of the late Bing Thom, write an 800-1000 word essay in response to the question:

‘Explain how a work of architecture can be transformative. Can you cite examples that demonstrate how
the impact of a single building on a community can be transformative? Is every good building transformative on some level’?

Join us at CAFÉ Housing to discuss Canadian Housing Policy and Education from January 31st to February 1st, 2025!

Join us at 325 Church St for CAFÉ Housing, a pivotal initiative as part of the Canadian Architecture Forums on Education (CAFÉ), to discuss and debate the role of architectural education and research in shaping Canada’s future. Building on prior CAFÉ’s focused on an architecture policy for Canada (2019-2020) and equity in architecture (2022), the upcoming event will gather students, interns, and professionals to engage in meaningful discussions on housing-related challenges and opportunities.

CAFÉ Housing will feature presentations by students, interns, and professionals, roundtable discussions, open forums and exhibitions.

Exciting news!

We’re thrilled to announce that CAFÉ Housing will be taking place from January 31 - February 1, 2025, at the Toronto Metropolitan University, Department of Architectural Science.

Part of the Canadian Architecture Forums on Education (est. 2019), CAFÉ Housing is dedicated to advancing architectural education and assessing and conversing on the current housing crisis in Canada. This year, we’re excited to share that the Canadian Architecture Students Association and Becoming Architects Canada are taking the lead in planning the series.

With the use of nationwide networks, CAFE will tackle key challenges and promote diverse architectural teaching methods while addressing barriers to equal and accessible housing rights.
